Aldrich Lab overview
The goal of the Aldrich Lab is to conduct cutting-edge research to advance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of lung cancer for all populations.
We use epidemiologic study design, statistical analysis, and data science methods to (1) understand genetic, social, and environmental factors contributing to lung cancer and (2) to address lung cancer screening inequities among underrepresented and diverse populations.
We are a nationally and internationally recognized lung cancer research program conducting broad multi-disciplinary and translational research.
Our work has received support from National Cancer Institute, National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, Department of Defense, industry, and lung cancer foundations.
Research
We strive to understand the mechanisms by which genetics, ancestry, environment, and social determinants of health influence lung cancer risk and health outcomes.
Community Engagement
We collaborate with members of diverse communities to share our research findings and inform our research priorities.
Our Team
Dr. Melinda Aldrich leads a team of Vanderbilt staff and students focused on addressing lung cancer.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) statement
The Aldrich Lab values all aspects of science that impact society. We are intentional about inclusion of research topics, as well the identities of those performing the research. We commit to diversity and to:
- Celebrate and invite diversity of ideas and affirm the identities of every person
- Support an environment that is welcoming, non-judgmental, and inclusive
- Treat others with respect, even when we disagree
