The Holowatyj Lab decodes the distinct gastrointestinal cancer burden among adults younger than age 50 years.

Our research program uniquely spans from cells to society by conducting both patient-based (epidemiologic) studies and laboratory-based projects to investigate three major research areas of early-onset gastrointestinal cancers within the team:

  • Cancer etiology/biology.
  • Health disparities (e.g. race/ethnicity, sex, geographic region) among young patients diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancers.
  • Cancer survivorship and the unique challenges facing young individuals after a gastrointestinal cancer diagnosis.
