Jennifer A. Lewis, MD

Jennifer Lewis, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology. Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Science from the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Sciences in 2004. She worked at the National Cancer Institute for two years in a core laboratory focused on antibody/protein purification and cancer assay development as part of the NIH Post-baccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award program. She earned a Master in Physiology and Biophysics from Georgetown University in 2007 and worked at the Cancer Project (a nonprofit focused on nutrition for cancer patients) as her master’s practicum. She graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine in the research track in 2011 and completed her internal medicine internship and residency at Wake Forest University in 2014. During residency, she was a Tinsley R. Harrison Research Scholar, and her research in lung cancer screening implementation earned national recognition. Following residency, she served as one of the internal medicine chief residents. She completed her fellowship in medical oncology at Vanderbilt in 2017. Following fellowship, Jennifer will matriculate into Vanderbilt's Master of Public Health (MPH) program and will be a VA Quality Scholar Fellow. She plans to pursue a research career as a physician-scientist in health services and outcomes research in the areas of cancer survivorship, tobacco cessation, and lung cancer early detection. Other interests include the treatment of lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies, including targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and novel therapies as part of clinical trials aimed to improve patient survival and quality of life.
