Statement of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
"We understand that scientific excellence depends on creativity, that creativity emerges from diversity, and that the advantages of diversity are realized through inclusion." -David Asai
Cutting-edge research requires creativity and freedom of expression. The Serezani laboratory is open to anyone interested in research, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and identity, disability status, age, religion, or socioeconomic background.
We are looking for people who represent historically underrepresented groups who are committed to rectifying past and ongoing inequities. We are also delighted to support immigrants who bravely journey to our country with the conviction that science and education know no boundaries. We are committed to creating opportunities for all.
We are dedicated to:
- Training, assisting, and providing for all students and lab members, regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disabilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression
- Providing a place at the table for every member
- Making sure that all voices are heard and valued
- Courteously handling issues, whether expressed in the moment or later in analysis
- Fostering an environment where lab members feel comfortable disclosing their needs, asking for assistance, and working jointly
- Ensuring that our laboratory is both a safe community and a safe physical location
We pledge to frequently discuss our norms, progress, and re-commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
We urge everyone to help shape the lab environment and policies, and we provide chances for PI feedback.
