In the Cahill lab, our goal is to identify new and personalized treatment options for asthma. Our clinical protocols are developed with a focus on subtypes of adult-onset asthma.
GATA-3 Study
The GLP-1R Agonists in the Treatment of Adult, Symptomatic, Obese Asthma (GATA-3) study is the first randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to explore the impact of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists (GLP-1RAs) on asthma. This study aims to enhance understanding of the therapeutic potential of GLP-1RAs for treating asthma in the context of obesity. By evaluating the direct effects on the airway, the research seeks to offer a new therapeutic alternative for patients who no longer respond to traditional asthma treatments.

The Lung Health Cohort Study
The Lung Health Cohort Study is the first longitudinal study in the U.S. to track lung health in 4,000 healthy individuals aged 25 to 35. Funded by the Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in collaboration with the American Lung Association, Northwestern University, and Johns Hopkins University, this groundbreaking research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of lung health. By examining various factors that predict and prevent lung disease, the study aspires to revolutionize pulmonary medicine, shifting the focus from reactive treatment to preventive care. The findings are expected to have a transformative impact on lung health, akin to the significance of cholesterol research in cardiovascular health.
