Welcome to the Electronic Learning Record (ELR)
at Vanderbilt University Medical Center
The Electronic Learning Record is an educational research project to create a microlearning network to support workplace-based learning of residents and attendings.
The specific aims are to study the effect of a mobile, microlearning network on:
- Learner engagement
- Evidence-based practice
This two-year educational research project is supported by the VUSM FAME (Faculty Advancing Medical Education) Grant from July 2021-July 2023. At present, a total of 15 hospital medicine teaching attendings and the Internal Medicine chief residents (and their teaching teams of residents and students) participate in the ELR across two clinical sites, the VUMC main hospital and the Nashville VA Medical Center.
Background
The ELR is funded by the VUSM FAME Grant (awarded 2021). The fellowships from this Faculty to Advance Medical Education (FAME) grant support selected medical educators interested in developing and implementing projects designed to support learning across all phases of medical education, while also improving patient care.
The goals of the ELR are to:
Capture learning artifacts as they occur organically among teaching teams
Facilitate co-learning and to document these experiences in a workplace educational portfolio
Foster the development of Master Adaptive Ward Learners." (ELR FAME Grant)
Support varied communities of practice within the VUMC learning system
We are invested in improving the learning experience by developing microlearning tools that benefit learner teams and patients alike.
We aim to construct tomorrow's learning system today.
