Sepiso K. Masenga, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Human Pathology at Mulungushi University in Zambia, where he is dedicated to advancing knowledge in the pathophysiology of various diseases. He is also a volunteering director at the Livingstone Center for Prevention and Translational Science where he heads the Department of Cardiovascular Science and Metabolic Diseases. He holds joint affiliations with Vanderbilt University Medical Center, specifically with the Departments of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, the Department of Medicine, and the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health.

Dr. Masenga’s research spans a broad array of topics, with a primary focus on the immune-pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying salt sensitivity in blood pressure regulation and its broader implications for cardiovascular health. His work integrates cutting-edge technologies such as correlative multimodal imaging and genomic analyses to explore mitochondrial function and its role in disease progression. His expertise also extends to metabolomics (including proteomics and genomics) and their applications in understanding both noncommunicable and infectious diseases, including HIV.

Dr. Masenga’s interdisciplinary approach combines molecular biology, clinical research, and global health initiatives, aiming to uncover novel biomarkers and therapeutic strategies to address the challenges of cardiovascular disease and other global health concerns.
