Wenliang Song, MD, is a physician-scientist in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His clinical interests include consultative and general cardiology with a particular interest in preventative cardiology and lipid disorders. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Clinical Lipidology, Cardiovascular Disease and board-eligible for Obesity Medicine. He is an elected Fellow of the National Lipid Association (FNLA) and served as the co-Chair of the Early Career Development Committee of the NLA from 2017-2020.

Dr. Song completed his internal medicine residency at Yale University Bridgeport Hospital and cardiology fellowship at Vanderbilt University. He did a postdoc research fellowship on bioactive lipids at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was trained as a translational researcher. He discovered and characterized two novel classes of oxidized bioactive lipids from omega-3 fatty acids, EPA, and DHA. He elucidated the role of PGD2 in the cardiovascular system and found PGD2, like PGI2, may function as a homeostatic response to thrombogenic and hypertensive stimuli.

His current research focuses on exploring the complex interplay of bioactive lipids and lipoproteins particles such as HDL and lipoprotein (a). His lab also has particular interests in investigating the impact of supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids in the cardiovascular system. His research has been funded by the American Heart Association and the National Institute of Health.
