Vineet Agrawal, MD, PhD, is a general cardiologist and translational physician-scientist with a clinical and research focus on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and pulmonary hypertension (PH).
His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms by which metabolic diseases such as obesity and diabetes contribute to structural changes in the heart and pulmonary vasculature in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). His research utilizes a combination of population genomics, patient-derived samples, and basic/animal models of HFpEF to investigate these mechanisms in hopes of finding new therapeutic and disease modifying targets for the treatment of HFpEF.
His current basic research is investigating the role of natriuretic peptide signaling in the development and progression of metabolic syndrome-induced PH and HFpEF. He is specifically interested in the role of natriuretic peptide receptor C (NPRC) in cardiovascular and pulmonary vascular homeostasis.
