Genetic Counselor Research Fellowships

Vanderbilt’s Genetic Counseling community hosts the funded research opportunity, Fellowship In Genomics Outcomes Research (FIGOR). Through FIGOR, genetic counselor scholars spend 50% effort over two years gaining experience in translational research skills in the areas of genomic sciences and genomic medicine, including the ethical, legal, and social implications of these areas. The purpose of this program is to maximize the impact of collaboration and broaden the impact of translational genomic research. 

FIGOR: Fellowship In Genomics Outcomes Research

 

FIGOR is federally funded under this opportunity. The program consists of four phases, split over 24 months (phases 1&2 during year one and phases 3&4 during year two): 

  • EXPLORE: Self assess research skills and interests, meet with potential mentors and teams.
  • DESIGN: Outline your research project in collaboration with mentor and team.
  • EXECUTE: Present and publish your research.
  • DELIVER: Create a 5-year career plan and network.
