Regina G. Russell, PhD, MA, MEd, is assistant professor of medical education and administration at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and serves as director for learning system outcomes in the Office for Undergraduate Medical Education. She focuses on the measurement of individual and organizational performance to help drive learning and educational quality improvement.

Dr. Russell is the advisor for 1GMD, a student-led group to support first-generation college students and low-income (FGLI) learners in medicine. Her current research efforts focus on the experiences of FGLI medical learners, the development of learner competencies for the clinical use of artificial-intelligence tools, data- and technology- supported competency development, and measurement practices for improving learning environments.

Dr. Russell is the chair of the Learning Environment Assessment and Feedback committee which monitors trends and makes recommendations for clinical learning support across Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is also the co-chair of the national Clinical Learning Environment Workgroup for the Kern National Network for Caring and Character in Medicine.

She holds a PhD in public policy and administration from Tennessee State University, an MA in sociology from the University of Tennessee, and an MEd in higher education administration from the University of Arkansas.
