Newcomb Lab
Research in the Newcomb Lab
The Newcomb laboratory, led by Principal Investigator Dawn Newcomb, PhD, has a long-standing interest in the mechanisms driving asthma pathogenesis, lung inflammation, and immunometabolism.
Our multi-pronged approach allows us to determine mechanisms which regulate airway inflammation from many different angles, provides rapid generation of data, and is the foundational research required for the development of new drug targets or strategies for future clinical trials in asthma.

The Newcomb Lab has three primary arms of research
Determining how environmental exposures, including respiratory viral infections, modify airway epithelial cells and immune cells to develop to increase the risk of asthma in childhood.
Determining how androgens and estrogen signaling modulate the immune system, immunometabolism, and airway inflammation in asthma.
Deciphering how changes in systemic metabolism and obesity modulate immunometabolism and immune cell function.
