Matt Fleming, MD, PhD, is an Instructor in Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, Department of Medicine, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. 

He was raised in a small town south of Buffalo, NY, and received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo in Biochemistry. After graduation from college, he enrolled in a doctoral program in Cellular and Molecular Physiology at Yale University, where his dissertation research focused on the genetic and biophysical basis of epilepsy and intellectual disability. 

After completing his PhD, Dr. Fleming completed his MD at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He plans to pursue a career in academic medicine with a focus on cardiovascular disease.
