Professional bio
Tao Yang, PhD, PhD, is a Research Professor of Medicine in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  He received his MD degree from Wuhan University School of Medicine in China and his PhD degree from the University of Tromso School of Medicine in Norway. He completed his post-doctoral fellow training at VUMC in 1995. Since then, he has been a research faculty member in the Departments of Medicine and Pharmacology at VUMC.  

Dr. Yang’s research areas focus on basic cardiac electrophysiology, antiarrhythmic drugs, and ion channel biology.  Dr. Yang is a key member of Dr. Dan M. Roden’s team and is involved in multiple well-funded projects (NIH, Pharmaceutical Industry). He has authored/co-authored more than 60 high-profile scientific research papers and has been invited to participate in review panels for multiple professional journals and grant agencies. He has been an invited speaker at national and international academic conferences. Dr. Yang has supervised more than 30 MD/PhD graduate students, postdoctoral and clinical fellows for their research projects.
