Originally from Brazil, Ana Salina, PhD, received her bachelor's and master's degrees at São Paulo State University and her PhD from São Paulo University. During this time, she aimed to understand how the phagocytosis of bacterial-infected cells could modulate macrophage activation. After that, she completed her first postdoc at São Paulo University studying the efferocytosis of SARS-COV-2-dead cells.
A Research Fellow in the Division of Infectious Diseases, Dr. Salina joined Dr. Serezani’s lab in 2022. Here, she is interested in understanding why dead cells accumulate in the skin of diabetic mice and the pathway to restore homeostasis during infection.
