Professional bio

Dr. Serezani joined the faculty in the Department of Medicine in 2016 as an assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, becoming an associate professor in 2020. He is a leader in different areas within Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Vanderbilt University, including serving as associate vice chair in the Department of Medicine and associate director of the Vanderbilt Center for Immunobiology.

Since 2016 Dr. Serezani has published over 80 research articles, making a significant impact both in the field of research and education. Most of his manuscripts have been published in high impact journals such as Science Signaling, PNAS, J. Clinical Investigation, PLoS Pathogens, Diabetes, and the Journal of Immunology. He has trained three postdocs who currently hold faculty positions in different institutions. Also, two graduate students successfully defended their PhD thesis in his laboratory. 

Dr. Serezani has established a robust line of research in inflammation/immunity and host defense and has extended this research into other areas of interest, such as metabolic disease and sepsis. His national reputation has been growing with invitations to present his research, requests to join editorial boards (Diabetes and Immunohorizon), and invitations to both ad hoc and different NIH (National Institutes of Health) study sections as a standing member of a NIAID K and T32 study section (AITC). Dr. Serezani also served as an ad hoc reviewer for various pilot funding grants from national and foreign universities and funding agencies. He is an active member of the American Association of Immunologists and the American Diabetes Association as well as a member of the council at the Society for Leukocyte Biology.  

Outside of the lab he enjoys watching his daughters play soccer and basketball and doing taekwondo with them.
