Danielle is originally from Gainesville, FL. She earned her degree in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, completing an undergraduate research project in Dr. Craig Duvall’s lab where she developed a research interest in translational biomedical engineering. Since joining the Woodard Lab, Danielle has been interested in how extracellular vesicles can treat the secondary effects of kidney disease, specifically cachexia or muscle wasting associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). She is currently working with in vitro muscle models as well as CKD animal models to test induced nephron progenitor exosomes in this context. CKD affects up to 12% of people in the United States and cachexia is an issue in other diseases as well, including cancer. Danielle is a trained dancer who also enjoys hot yoga, hiking, watercolor painting, and making friends laugh in her free time.
