Jack Hartert is pursuing his B.A. in Molecular and Cellular Biology and MHS from Vanderbilt University and expects to graduate in 2026. Since joining the Woodard lab in February 2023, Jack has cultured hiPSCs, urine-derived stem cells, and kidney cell lines to create human renal disease models. With these cells, he has developed kidney organoids, induced nephron progenitors, and exosomes, which have the potential to mitigate apoptosis in damaged cells. Jack has experience in cell culture, biostatistics, exosome isolation, tissue staining, and cellular imaging. In 2024, Jack worked overseas with Dr. Hoogduijn at Erasmus MC where he gained further experience deriving kidney organoids. Jack’s current research focuses on utilizing kidney organoids as a disease and therapeutic model.
