Join Our Team

The Mason Lab is interested in recruiting motivated and curious graduate students, postdoctoral and clinical fellows, and post-baccalaureate researchers. We welcome individuals with all levels of experience, and those with expertise in cell biology, genomics, imaging, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry are encouraged to apply.

If you are interested in joining our group, please contact us and describe your goals, background, and why you want to join our group. Graduate students are required to apply directly through the Vanderbilt University Interdisciplinary Graduate Program.

The Mason Lab strives to have an inclusive and engaged lab environment, welcoming individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise. We value professionalism, curiosity, enthusiasm, rigor, empathy, and kindness.

As a mentor, I expect trainees to be present and engaged in the lab and during meetings and to take intellectual ownership of their project. I expect lab members to be collegial and supportive, and open to giving and receiving criticism. And I fully encourage lab members to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Each trainee arrives at a different place, and my responsibility is to meet each person where they are. I work with individuals to build skills and expertise in line with their personal and professional goals.

My primary goal is to support my trainees as people, which involves constant and open conversation. I meet individually with trainees every week, and my office always has an “open door.” It is important to me to be present in the lab and act as an advocate for my trainees.
