Professional bio

Anna Burgner, MD, MEHP, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She is currently the Program Director of the Vanderbilt Nephrology Fellowship Program. 

She completed a Master of Education in the Health Professions with a focus on nephrology education improvement and curriculum development. She directs many of the Vanderbilt nephrology division's conferences, including Renal Grand Rounds, Nephrology Clinical Conference, and Nephrology Journal Club. She also chairs the nephrology fellowship education committee. 

Dr. Burgner is the associate director of the Nephrology Clinical Trials Center where she has been PI or co-PI on both NIH and industry sponsored phase 2 and phase 3 clinical studies including SPRINT, DAPA-CKD, FIGARO, and FIDELIO trials. She has particular interest in clinical trials in nephrology regenerative medicine, diabetic nephropathy, and hypertension in chronic kidney disease.
