Takamune Takahashi MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a member of American Society of Nephrology (ASN) and American Physiological Society (APS).

Dr. Takahashi’s research interests and expertise are focused on: the role of CD148 tyrosine phosphatase in kidney disease, angiogenesis, and cancer; the role of eNOS in diabetic kidney disease; and non-invasive imaging techniques to assess the structural and functional changes in kidney disease.

Dr. Takahashi has been directing the In Vivo Mouse Kidney Imaging Core at Vanderbilt O’Brien Kidney Research Center (VOKC) and Vanderbilt Center for Kidney Disease (VCKD). His group has established a series of imaging techniques for mouse kidney disease imaging, including MRI, SPECT, and microCT. As a primary lab of Vanderbilt O'Brien Mouse Kidney Physiology and Disease Center (MKPDC), Dr. Takahashi and colleagues are developing non-invasive kidney imaging techniques that enable structural, functional, and molecular assessments of mouse kidney disease in living animals.

Dr. Takahashi is the recipient of National Kidney Foundation Young Investigator Award and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Career Development Award. He has published over 70 original articles, 10 reviews, and book chapters.
